2026 CALL FOR AWARD NOMINATIONS

The NABJ Salute to Excellence Awards Nominations Portal is now open to all media organizations and individuals involved in print, broadcast and/or online journalism and other media. Submit your nomination here by 11:59 PM (PT) on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.

Every year, NABJ pays homage to legendary Black journalists who have made outstanding contributions to the industry. Honorees will be inducted into the NABJ Hall of Fame during the NABJ Hall of Fame Induction & Luncheon ceremony held during the 2026 NABJ Convention and Career Fair. Submit your nomination here by 11:59 PM (PT) on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.

The National Association of Black Journalists' most coveted awards honor the groundbreaking accomplishments of Black journalists and those who support the Black community in the media. These awards include Lifetime Achievement, Journalist of the Year and Best Practices. From those who blazed the trail to the ones who fight to make sure our stories are heard, even in the face of adversity, NABJ bestows special honors on journalism organizations, professionals, educators and students committed to exemplary coverage of the Black community. The awards will be presented at the 2026 NABJ Convention and Career Fair. Submit your nomination here by 11:59 PM (PT) on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.


APPLY FOR STUDENT MULTIMEDIA PROJECTS

NABJ offers students an all-expense-paid fellowship to work in a fully operational newsroom to cover NABJ’s annual convention and local stories in the host city via its Student Projects program.

During the week-long program, students work alongside professional journalists and public relations experts to produce daily television newscasts and newspapers; create and maintain the convention website; and coordinate and manage corporate communications for workshops, special events and NABJ’s sponsors.

Students are selected for each of the following program areas: print, TV reporting, TV production, graphic design, photography, multimedia, copy desk, and public relations. Mentors are selected based on their experience and availability. Students can apply for the 2026 project online now through Jan 30, 2026. Participants are selected and notified annually in the spring.

NABJ JSHOP HIGH SCHOOL WORKSHOP

NABJ’s JSHOP is a four-day workshop for local high school students in the host city of NABJ’s annual convention.

The program provides interactive learning opportunities through lectures, presentations, hands-on training and field trips. The students learn journalism fundamentals for news-gathering, writing, photography, video production, radio, graphic design, editing, and social media. Professional journalists, educators, and journalism college students provide mentorship and supervision. Successful applicants possess an interest in pursuing a career in journalism.

The NABJ Authors Showcase is a unique NABJ membership benefit that provides opportunities for NABJ members to have their book recognized and for aspiring writers to receive expert advice on how to write, publish, sell, market and promote their book through a series of showcases and workshops.
